 SUSPENSION

  • NEW KYB front and rear suspension components

  • NEW XTrig ROCS-TECH triple clamps with PHDS (Progressive Handlebar Damping System)

The KX450SR receives all-new KYB front and rear suspension components with a DLC (diamond-like coating) on the fork tubes and shock shaft that increases surface hardness to help prevent scratches and gouges that can occur from dirt, mud, rocks, and roost found in the motocross environment. It also reduces friction so that exclusive KX450SR settings can be used for higher performance, smoother suspension action, and a plush feeling. A Kashima Coat creates a hard, low-friction surface on the inside of the fork outer tubes and shock resevoir to help prevent wear abrasion and keep sliding surfaces smooth for a long time. The lubricating material in the coating contributes to smoother suspension action, especially at the initial part of the stroke, and a better ride feel. The large-diameter fork inner tubes allow large 25mm damping pistons to be used so a firm damping force can be achieved with a lower internal pressure, which allows firmer damping performance and increased riding comfort. The rear shock offers dual compression adjustability so that high speed and low speed damping can be tuned separately. Utilizing feedbck from Kawasaki’s factory race teams, the 22mm front axle enhances front end traction. The New Uni-Trak® rear suspension linkage ratios have been selected to suit the chassis.

Holding up the KYB front forks is a new set of XTrig ROCS (revolutionary opposing clamp system) tech triple clamps that help to improve fork flex action for more optimal fork function. The upper triple clamp is outfitted with XTrig’s PHDS (progressive handlebar dampening system) handlebar mounts that are lightweight and improve responsiveness of the fork, and is supported by elastomers which are designed to absorb vibration from the engine and chassis. This system also helps to dampen the forces acting on the handlebars in both horizontal and vertical directions, translating into increased steering precision for the rider. With this system, the handlebar can be adjusted in 12 different positions for total rider customization.

  • NEW Exhaust cam timing

  • NEW Stiffer valve springs

  • NEW Combustion chamber design and flatter piston crown

  • NEW Longer connecting rod

  • NEW Lighter crankshaft design

  • NEW Revised pressure balance inside the crankcase

  • NEW Coned disk-spring hydraulic clutch

  • NEW Electric start via the push of a button

  • NEW Lightweight, compact Li-ion battery

Despite the 2020 KX250 already benefitting from a significant power increase thanks to its adoption of finger-follower valve actuation, the engine of the 2021 KX250 has received additional changes to raise peak power even further and enable an even higher rev limit, while significantly increasing low-mid range performance.

Tuned to best suit race-experienced riders, the 249cc liquid-cooled, four-stroke engine focuses on more top-end revs thanks to improvements gleaned through Kawasaki’s factory racing efforts.

The 2021 KX250 becomes Kawasaki’s first electric start 250 motocross bike, which is activated by the push of a button located on the handlebar near the right grip, making starting easy and convenient. The ability to restart the engine quickly can mean the difference between keeping your lead or having to fight your way through the pack under intense race situations. A lightweight, compact Li-ion battery helps keep weight down, as does an automatic centrifugal decompression system fitted to the exhaust cam, which lifts one exhaust valve to facilitate starting.

In addition to electric start, the 2021 KX250 also becomes Kawasaki’s first 250 motocross bike equipped with a coned disk-spring hydraulic clutch. The new high-capacity coned disk-spring clutch offers a more direct feel and an easier pull for lighter lever action, reducing fatigue while on the racetrack. The use of coned disk-spring contributes to lighter clutch actuation when the lever is pulled in, and a wider clutch engagement range, which facilitates control. In order to promote clean separation and help reduce drag when the clutch is pulled in, the friction plates were designed with offset segments. The hydraulic clutch is designed to provide a more consistent feeling through minimal change in clutch play as the clutch heats up during heavy use.

Utilizing the finger-follower valve actuation – a valve train designed by Kawasaki’s World Superbike engineers – helps achieve a high rev limit and allows for the use of more aggressive cam profiles, which contributes to high rpm performance. A diamond-like carbon coating on the finger followers helps protect against wear.  Complementing the aggressive cams are large-diameter intake and exhaust valves with high lift, which flow more air and contribute to strong power. The processing for the intake and exhaust ports has been revised with a new, larger-diameter angle that contributes to increased performance. The cams benefit from a thin and highly durable gas soft-nitride treatment to reduce wear and increase high rpm reliability and the exhaust cam timing has been retarded 3º for better engine performance. Lightweight titanium valves reduce reciprocating weight and offer high rpm reliability, while the valve springs now feature a higher spring rate to match the higher rev limit. The addition of a 3 mm longer connecting rod decreases lateral force on the cylinder walls as the piston moves up and down, helping to reduce mechanical loss and improving reliability. The cylinder is offset 3 mm forward, reducing mechanical loss and increasing engine performance. A cylinder head mounted cam chain tensioner adds to the KX250’s dependability by offsetting the increased loads from the aggressive camshaft and high revving engine.

21KX252C_Piston_20.high.jpeg

A plateau honing process of the cylinder bore results in a smooth surface with good oil-retention. The smooth surface also helps to reduce mechanical loss and improve power. A revised combustion chamber design and a flatter piston crown contribute to increased performance. The high-performance piston features the same design used by Kawasaki’s factory racers and contributes strong performance at all rpm. A short skirt, reinforced external ribs and the use of a bridged-box piston, featuring internal bracing, allow for a lightweight and strong piston design. A dry film lubricant coating on the piston skirts reduces friction at low rpm and helps with the piston bedding-in process.

To reduce weight, an update has been made to the crankshaft web design and the pressure balance has been revised inside the crankcase, adding to the engine’s increased performance. Low-friction plain bearings on the crankshaft pin help reduce mechanical loss and lift overall performance. For strengthening of the transmission, axle spacing has been revised to match the increased engine output. Along with matching the revised axle spacing, shape-optimized gears contribute to weight reduction.

The airbox construction features a shorter, tapered intake funnel, contributing to increased high rpm performance. The KX250 was the first production motocross bike with dual injectors an injector downstream of the throttle valve that is tasked with delivering a smooth, instant response, and a second, upstream injector located close to the airbox for a significant contribution to engine output at high rpm. The exhaust system length helps increase high rpm performance and the hydro-formed joint pipe features a reverse taper design. A large throttle body flows a great volume of air and provides a boost in high rpm performance. Adding to Kawasaki’s engineering efforts for optimized airflow is the positioning of the intake duct for a straight approach for intake air. The downdraft-style intake routing increases the intake air’s approach angle into the cylinder, improving cylinder-filling efficiency and increasing the engines power.

21KX252C_201GN1DLS3CG_A_2.high.jpeg

DFI® COUPLERS

Contributing to the race-winning engine characteristics, the digital fuel injection system of the KX250 features a coupler package that has set the industry standard. Each KX250 motorcycle comes standard with three different couplers, easily allowing riders to select pre-programmed fuel injection and ignition mapping to suit their riding style or track conditions. The four-pin DFI® couplers select maps that are designed for standard, hard or soft terrain settings. Changing the engine map is as simple as connecting the coupler cap of choice. For riders looking to fine tune their ECU settings, the KX™ FI Calibration Kit (Handheld) is offered as a Kawasaki Genuine Accessory and provides access to the fully programmable ECU. Used by the factory race teams, the handheld device eliminates the need for a trackside laptop and gives riders the ability to create custom maps for precise adjustment of fuel and ignition settings. The user-friendly device can store up to seven preset maps and is PC-compatible.

LAUNCH CONTROL

The launch control system of the KX250 motorcycle is a major advantage and favorite for riders who are focused on getting to the first turn ahead of their competition. The push-button activation retards ignition timing in first and second gear, helping maximize traction on slippery surfaces like concrete starting pads and put the bike’s potent power to the ground. Once the rider shifts into third gear, normal ignition mapping immediately resumes and full power is restored.

      • NEW KX™450-based slim aluminum perimeter frame

      • NEW Engine is used as a stressed member

      • NEW Steering head area with optimized rigidity

      • NEW KX450 swingarm for increased rear traction

The KX250’s new slim aluminium perimeter frame is based off of its KX450 counterpart and with lightweight, nimble handling, and slim ergonomics in mind. Its design is a lightweight construction composed of forged, extruded, and cast parts. The new frame offers a better overall rigidity balance, and while many of the parts are common with the KX450’s frame, the cast parts like shock tower mount and engine hangers were designed specifically for the needs of the KX250. Adding to the frame’s rigidity balance is the use of the engine as a stressed member. The steering head area, main frame rails with updated cross-sections, line for the swingarm brackets, and wider lower frame rails have all been revised and contribute to the overall rigidity balance.

The addition of a KX450 swingarm delivers the rigidity necessary to match the frame and helps to increase traction at the rear wheel. The center of gravity and key dimensions such as swingarm pivot, output sprocket and rear axle locations have all been carefully selected so that the rear tire drives the bike forward.

The forks feature large-diameter inner tubes, enabling the use of 25 mm damping pistons and delivering smooth action and firm damping. A Kashima Coat on the forks’ outer tubes creates a hard, low-friction surface to help prevent wear abrasion on the inside of the tubes, ensuring the sliding surfaces remain smooth over time while protecting the outside against corrosion. The lubricating material in the coat contributes to smoother suspension action and a better overall ride feel. The lower triple clamp has been revised for optimized rigidity and reduced weight, while contributing to the front’s ability to absorb bumps.

In the rear, a KYB shock unit complements the front fork. The rear shock features dual compression adjustability, which allows high-speed and low-speed damping to be tuned separately. Kashima Coat on the tank cylinder helps prevent wear abrasion and reduces friction for smoother suspension action.  A new Uni-Trak® rear suspension system mounts the linkage arm below the swingarm, allowing a longer rear suspension stroke. The linkage ratios have been revised, now using the same as those found on the KX450 motorcycle, contributing to both increased absorption and damping performance. Both front and rear suspension feature new fine-tuned settings that are designed to match the frame and provide increased bump absorption as well as increased traction.

Contributing to the numerous factory-style racing components on the KX250 motorcycle are petal disc brakes. Up front is an oversized 270 mm Braking® brand rotor, which delivers strong braking force and superb control. A new front master cylinder like the one on the KX450 adds to the high level of control and overall feedback found in the front brake.

Why Every Kid Should Ride A Dirt Bike

We always promote keeping kids on dirt bikes over here at Keefer Inc. and we got this essay from Jason Fichera in our email inbox that we thought was an awesome read. Take the time and have your kids read this and hopefully we can get more kids like Jason out there on dirt bikes. -KK

Jason doing what he loves the most. Ride his dirt bike.

Every Kid Should Ride a Dirtbike

I believe that every kid should ride a dirt bike. It doesn’t have to be much. I started on a tiny, 10 inch-wheeled Honda CRF50F. I was about two years old when I got it, and I slapped the number 22 on my bike, trying to emulate motocross legend Chad Reed. Since then, I have been looking forward to every weekend when I would get to ride. Throughout my life, I have heard an incredible amount of denunciation of dirtbike riding. I have been called a hooligan, a gang member, and a straight up idiot, not to mention having to see the perplexed and disapproving faces of so many of my friends’ parents when they find out that I dance with the devil—a dirt bike. I can’t even manage to ride more than ten minutes in the 200 acre abandoned farm down the dirt road from my house before I see a police car. It’s really not as bad as it sounds. Throughout my early childhood, all my friends thought it was the coolest thing ever, and the occasional blurry 3”x5” picture of me on my tiny dirt bike would have the entire first, second, or third grade class gathering around in envy.

I’m not saying that every kid should ride a dirtbike for the glory of being the source of your peers’ jealousy, but as a particularly evil child at times, it was a happy coincidence. I mentioned the negativity I have encountered from anti-fun, bubble-blowing parents and organizations, but there is also a decent amount of people whose positivity makes it all worth it. For those who know the feeling, the same immense grin stretches across their faces, and for this reason I believe that every kid should ride a dirtbike. Nowadays I ride a Yamaha YZ450F, and my racing number is 44, the perfect number derived from the three riders who I have always looked up to the most: Adam Cianciarulo, Ricky Carmichael and Chad Reed.

It has been fifteen years since I started riding dirt bikes, so to reflect on my entire life through a simple hobby might seem peculiar to some, but not for a dirt bike rider. Throughout my years of riding and racing dirtbikes, I have learned that every riding technique parallels a good tip for a successful life away from the track or trails. For example, getting a good start in both a motocross race or in life after high school will generally improve your likelihood for a good finish. Being patient and efficient will help you ride and steer through life in a safely and proficiently. Looking fifty feet ahead rather than at your (metaphorical and literal) front fender will help you navigate obstacles and bumps, both in the dirt and throughout life. All in all, riding dirt bikes have kept me out of trouble, helped me learn meaningful lessons and above all, given me unwavering happiness. For these reasons, I believe that every kid should ride a dirt bike.

2020 Kawasaki KX450 Announced

The Kawasaki KX™ motocross lineup has created a long list of successes that has built champions since the start. The entire KX lineup returns for 2020 with models ready to build even more future champions.

The Kawasaki Team Green™ racing team has been the dominant force in amateur racing for more than nearly 40 years, providing contingency and trackside support to racers. As a result, Kawasaki has relied on the aspiring young stars to provide input and to help develop winning products across its lineup.

 KAWASAKI KX™450

Completely redesigned from the ground up last year, the KX™450 motorcycle returns for 2020 as the flagship model in the Kawasaki KX™ lineup. Tuned to best suit race-experienced riders, the 449cc liquid-cooled, four-stroke engine, slim aluminum perimeter frame, Showa A-KIT technology suspension, hydraulic clutch and electric start are the ultimate combination of a championship winning package.

The KX450 is built with race-winning components to help Kawasaki riders get to the top step of the podium. From the showroom to the racetrack, the performance of Kawasaki’s KX™ family of motorcycles is proof of its engineering pedigree. It truly is the Bike that Builds Champions.

ENGINE

The four-stroke, single cylinder, DOHC, water-cooled 449cc lightweight engine package utilizes input derived directly from the factory race team, producing peak power and a torque curve that makes it easy to get on the gas early. The potent KX450 engine features an electric start, which is activated by the push of a button and powered by a compact Li-ion battery.

Kawasaki brought top-level road racing technology to the KX450 valve train, using designs from Kawasaki World Superbike engineers. It uses finger-follower valve actuation, enabling larger-diameter valves and more aggressive cam profiles. The intake and exhaust valves are formed from lightwight titanium, while a bridged-box piston uses the same design as the Monster Energy® Kawasaki race team’s factory motorcycles.

A close-ratio five speed transmission features lightweight gears and shafts to keep weight down, yet retain strength, while contributing to the motorcycle’s winning performance. The transmision is paired with a hydraulic clutch that is designed to provide a consistent feeling through minimal change in play as the clutch heats up during heavy use.

20KX450J_201GN1DRF2CG_A_2.high.jpeg

CHASSIS

An industry-leading slim aluminum perimeter frame provides pecise cornering through excellent front-end feel and the ultimate agility when riding at high speeds. The frame’s lightweight construction is composed of forged, extruded and cast parts, while the engine is used as a stressed member and adds to the frames rigidity balance. A lightweight alloy swingarm is constructed of a cast front section and twin tapered hydro-formed spars in a raw aluminum finish, complementing the frame. Engineers carefully placed the dimension of the swingarm pivot, output sprocket and rear axle locations, helping to focus on center of gravity and balanced handling.

SUSPENSION & BRAKES

High-performance Showa 49 mm coil spring front forks with A-KIT technology can be found up front, featuring large diameter inner tubes that are the same size as those found on Kawasaki’s factory racing team’s machines. The forks enable the use of large damping pistons for smooth action and firm damping.

On the rear, a Kawasaki Uni-Trak® linkage system is designed to work in conjunction with the Showa shock, aluminum frame and swingarm. The linkage, which is mounted below the swingarm, allows for a longer rear suspension stroke and more precise rear suspension tuning. The Showa Compact Design rear shock boasts A-KIT technology with bigger diameter compression adjuster, improving on the high frequency movements found on today’s motocross tracks.

An oversized 270 mm, petal-shaped front brake rotor from the renowned manufacturer, Braking®, is fitted to keep up with the powerful engine of the KX450. The rear is equipped with a 250 mm petal-shaped Braking rotor that matches the large front disc.

ADJUSTABILITY

Kawasaki continues its umatched commitment towards providing riders with class-leading ERGO-FIT™ comfort thanks its adjustablehandlebar mounting system and footpegs to fit a variety of riders and riding styles. The handlebars feature four-way adjustable mounts. The multi-positition handlebars offer two mounting holes with 35 mm of adjustability, and the 180-degree offset clamps boast four individual settings to suit different size riders. The footpegs feature dual-position mounting points, with a lower position that reduces the standard setting by an additional 5 mm. The lower position effectively lowers the center of gravity when standing, and reduces knee angle when tallers riders are seated.

20KX450J_201GN1DRS2CG_A_3.high.jpeg

BODYWORK & SEAT

Complementing the championship proven technology, the 2020 KX450 features aggressive styling along with in-mold graphics on the radiator shrouds that result in an ultra-smooth surface and racy look needed to finish at the top of its class. The sleek bodywork has been molded to mach the V-mounted radiators and narrow chassis design. Each piece of the bodywork has been designed to help facilitate riders movement with long, smooth surfaces tha make it easy to slide back and forth.

    performance.
    // Rider-friendly Tuning

o Fuel couplers are included for quick and easy EFI tuning

  • ENGINE FEATURES

  • //  The 449cc, liquid-cooled, four-stroke, four-valve, DOHC engine is the latest incarnation of Suzuki’s proven and reliable fuel-injected powerplant.

  • //  The engine has high peak horsepower with strong torque at lower engine speeds for excellent throttle response through the entire rev range.

  • //  The cylinder head intake port shape creates a high amount of tumble flow to the incoming fuel/air to increase power output.

  • //  The air cleaner’s large and straight opening creates a more direct air path to the throttle body to increase performance.

  • //  Suzuki’s advanced fuel-injection system creates extra-smooth power delivery, high fuel efficiency, and superb reliability.

  • //  The RM-Z450’s throttle body design locates the fuel injector, fed by a high-pressure fuel pump, so it sprays fuel directly at the butterfly valve to improve atomization of the fuel/air charge.

  • //  This throttle body design eliminates complex control linkage, so the rider feels a more direct connection to the engine.

// The intake camshaft profile has more valve lift than the prior generation RM-Z450, increasing power at all engine speeds.

// The compact aluminum cylinder is finished with Suzuki Composite Electrochemical Material (SCEM) coating for durability, light weight, and efficient heat transfer.

// The piston’s casting includes strengthening ribs near the wrist pin bosses to match component reliability to the engine’s high horsepower.

// Engine starting is simple and efficient due to a long kick-start lever, well-matched internal gear ratios, a large air cleaner and breather system, plus an automatic decompression system that works precisely and efficiently (eliminating the need for a heavy and costly electric start system).

// The high-flow exhaust system complies with AMA sound regulations.

// Tough resin engine protectors help guard the coolant pump (on the right) and the stator cover (on the left) from debris and stones.

ADVANCED ELECTRONICS

// The 2020 RM-Z450 features an evolved and efficient traction management system. The Electronic Control Module (ECM) continually measures throttle opening, engine speed, and gear position and then adjusts the ignition timing and fuel injector duration to fine-tune the engine output to deliver the best traction for the riding conditions.

o The RM-Z450’s traction management system is different from a street bike traction control system, as it does not measure rear tire spin. Because the needs of a motocrosser are different than a street bike, this system offers constant adjustment that maximizes traction at all times.

// The Suzuki Holeshot Assist Control (S-HAC) is a selectable launch system derived from the factory race bike to help riders’ takeoff from the starting gate for an early lead. There are three launch modes riders can choose for the best option per their skill level and starting conditions. There are also three stages to Mode A and Mode B of the S-HAC system. This helps riders at the moment of launch, when crossing the gate, and through acceleration to the full speed. The S-HAC settings for Mode A on the RM-Z450 are specially tuned to aid the rider’s throttle control during launches.

Mode A: For hard surfaces or slippery conditions at the starting gate.In this mode, S-HAC alters ignition timing at the moment of launch and the ride over the gate to reduce wheel slip to deliver a smooth takeoff. It also advances ignition timing during this sequence for stronger acceleration. After six seconds or when you reach fourth gear,

the system shuts off and returns to normal ignition timing.

• Benefit of Mode A: For novice riders, and/or hard and slippery traction conditions, use Mode A for a
more controlled launch.

Mode B: When conditions at the starting gate have better traction, and a more aggressive launch is desired.

S-HAC will advance the ignition timing to allow increased throttle response and stronger

acceleration off the line. The ignition timing alternation is in a similar sequence as Mode A, but with increased

overall timing. The system will return the ignition to normal operation in three situations (whichever happens first): After six

seconds, when you reach fourth gear, or when the throttle is closed. The system then shuts off and returns to normal ignition timing.

• Benefit of Mode B: For skilled riders, and/or good starting conditions, use Mode B for a more aggressive launch.

Base Mode: Standard power launch, no action required on the S-HAC switch.

// Designed for motocross use, the lightweight, battery-less, electronic fuel injection system is key to the engine’s efficient power delivery.

// Easy-to-use fuel couplers are included to simplify EFI tuning.

o For quick fuel adjustments to suit riding conditions, two couplers are provided. By plugging in either of two additional fuel-setting couplers to the wire harness, riders can opt for a richer-than-stock or leaner- than-stock fuel setting.

TRANSMISSION & DRIVE FEATURES

  • //  The well-sorted, five-speed transmission enables precise gear shift operation. This precise transmission feel is the result of an accurately machined shift cam for exact gear selection. Specialized machining processes also increase the precision of the matching gears.

  • //  The multi-plate, wet-clutch uses rack-and-pinion clutch release mechanism for precise feel of the engagement and disengagement points while riding.

  • //  The lightweight chain guide is shaped to accurately route the drive chain smoothly.

    CHASSIS FEATURES

  • //  The RM-Z450’s twin-spar frame and twin-beam swingarm design continues Suzuki’s tradition of delivering the best-handling motocross machines available.

    // Fitted with a center-port cylinder head, the fuel-injected, 249cc, liquid-

cooled, four-stroke, four-valve, DOHC engine remains proven and reliable.

  • //  The engine delivers strong peak power and superb throttle response through the entire rev range.

  • //  The cylinder head features a refined intake port shape and finish that fine-tunes the fuel/air charge into the combustion chamber to increase engine output.

  • //  A large air cleaner opening is combined with a direct air cleaner outlet tube path into the throttle body for high-volume air flow.

// The fuel injection system has extra-smooth power delivery, high fuel efficiency, superb reliability, and easy tuning capability.

// First introduced on the RM-Z250, twin fuel injectors are used to deliver excellent combustion chamber efficiency and high rpm power.

// The primary fuel injector is at the bottom of the throttle body and sprays fuel at the butterfly valve for outstanding fuel and air atomization. The secondary injector is positioned in the air cleaner inlet duct so the fuel and air have more time to mix and cool before entering the engine.

// To feed the twin-injector system and mix the fuel and air charge for outstanding throttle response, the RM-Z250 uses a high-capacity fuel pump.

// The special design of the throttle body eliminates complex control linkage, so the rider feels a more direct connection to the engine.

// The intake camshaft profile has more valve lift than the prior generation RM-Z250, increasing power at all engine speeds.

// The cam chain tension adjuster and guide have been designed to reduce friction and mechanical loss.

// The compact aluminum cylinder is finished with Suzuki Composite Electrochemical Material (SCEM) coating for durability, light weight, and efficient heat transfer.

// The machining process at the piston pin holes is changed to reduce stress at the piston crown to increase reliability.

// Engine starting remains simple, due to a proven kickstarter and automatic decompression system that works precisely and efficiently (eliminating the need for a heavy and costly electric start system).

// The high-flow exhaust system has a long head-pipe, tapered mid-section, and multi-layer silencer with good flow through the entire rev range, with an emphasis on low-rpm performance.

// The exhaust silencer is a four-layer design that enhances performance and maintains compliance with AMA sound regulations.

// The resin engine protectors help guard the coolant pump (on the right) and the stator cover (on the left) from debris and stones.

ADVANCED ELECTRONICS
// Suzuki’s proven, easy-to-use fuel couplers

are included to simplify EFI tuning.

o For quick fuel adjustments to suit riding conditions, two couplers are provided. One is for a richer-than-stock and another for a leaner-than-stock fuel setting. Riders can

change fuel settings in seconds by simply connecting either coupler to the wire harness.

// The RM-Z250 features an evolved traction management system that reacts to engine speed changes quickly. The Electronic Control Module (ECM) continually measures throttle opening, engine speed, and gear position, and then adjusts the ignition timing and fuel injector duration to fine-tune the engine output to deliver the best traction for the riding conditions.

o The RM-Z250’s traction management system is different from a street bike traction control system, as it does not measure rear tire spin. Because the needs of a motocrosser are different than a street bike, this system offers constant adjustment that maximizes traction at all times.

// The Suzuki Holeshot Assist Control (S-HAC) is a selectable launch system derived from the factory race bike to help riders’ takeoff from the starting gate for an early lead.

o To aid riders at the moment of launch, there are three stages of power adjustment from the S-HAC system: 1) the moment of initial launch, 2) when crossing the starting gate, and 3) acceleration up to full-speed.

// There are three S-HAC modes riders can choose for the best option per their skill level and starting conditions.

After six seconds or when you reach fourth gear, the system shuts off and returns to normal ignition timing.

• Benefit of Mode A: For novice riders, and/or hard and slippery traction conditions, use Mode A for a more controlled launch.

Mode B: When conditions at the starting gate have better traction, and a more aggressive launch is desired. S-HAC will advance the ignition timing to allow increased throttle response and stronger acceleration off the line. The ignition timing alternation is in a similar sequence as Mode A, but with increased overall timing. One of three conditions will return the ignition to normal operation (whichever happens first): After six seconds or when you reach fourth gear, the system shuts off and returns to normal ignition timing.

• Benefit of Mode B: For skilled riders, and/or good starting conditions, use Mode B for a more aggressive launch.

Base Mode: Standard power launch, no action required on the S-HAC switch.

TRANSMISSION & DRIVE FEATURES

// The five-speed transmission’s second gear ratio and overall final ratio matches the engine’s strong output for outstanding acceleration and top speed.

// True to Suzuki transmission standards, the gear shift operation is smooth and precise. Carefully designed parts like the precisely machined shift cam and corresponding gears create a transmission a racer can rely on.

  • //  The multi-plate, wet-clutch uses a rack-and-pinion clutch release mechanism for precise feel of the engagement and disengagement points while riding.

  • //  The lightweight chain guide is shaped to accurately route the drive chain smoothly.

CHASSIS FEATURES
// The RM-Z250 features a frame and swingarm design that continues

Suzuki’s reputation of creating the best-handling motocross motorcycles.

// The aluminum alloy twin-spar frame combines cast and extruded sections to achieve superior front-and-rear weight distribution, while balancing strength and weight.

// The 2020 RM-Z250 frame is 370 grams (0.8 pounds) lighter but has a 10 percent increase in torsional rigidity as compared to the prior generation frame.

// The engine’s position in the frame is rotated up so the crankshaft sits higher in the chassis to further the bike’s nimble handling characteristics.

// The rear, upper engine mounts are outboard of the cylinder head to increase rigidity and allow a direct intake path to the engine.

// The engine mount material is aluminum, rather than steel, for reduced weight.

// The swingarm is shaped using an innovative hydroforming process that maintains strength but weighs 0.6 pounds (270 grams).

// The hydroforming process enabled engineers to create tapered swingarm beams that increased rigidity, while reducing heavier assembly welding.

// Hexagonal aluminum rails are used on the sub-frame for lighter weight, a slimmer appearance, and easier air-filter access.

// The sub-frame rails are moved inward to slim the bodywork but are also raised to provide additional space for the larger air cleaner.

// Not only is the sub-frame narrow, but all of the bodywork is slim, so the rider can move freely in the cockpit, especially during spirited riding.

// The KYB-supplied shock absorber has a thin-wire spring, spring guide, cushion rubber guide, and lower link that are lightweight and have better movement reaction. The spring and link weigh a pound (447.5 grams) less than the prior generation’s parts.

// This KYB shock has specialized damping force circuits and a refined rear lever ratio to help improve the suspension’s traction characteristics.

// The damping force adjusters have a wide tuning range, so the settings can better match the conditions and the rider’s style.

// The high-performance KYB coil spring fork has legs with the same springs and damping force components, so front suspension tuning and maintenance is balanced and easy: a great benefit during frequent riding.

// This fork uses a free-piston design that separates air and oil to optimize the damping characteristics. The design also helps control the damping cartridge’s pressure and spring recoil, so the fork action remains supple and precise.

// The Renthal aluminum tapered handlebar has a flatter bend with less pull-back than prior models to aid rider control during aggressive maneuvering.

// A rigid, but lightweight upper fork bracket complements the front suspension and handlebars.

// To improve stopping performance and feel, a 270mm diameter, wave-style front brake rotor and a Nissin two-piston brake caliper are used.

// The brake pad material was developed for the RM-Z250 to improve performance. The master cylinder is a push rod type that more effectively transmits the squeezing force that the rider applies to the lever.

// The rear brake master cylinder hugs the frame beam to reduce dirt contamination and the chance of the rider’s boot touching it during riding.

// The wheels feature black anodized D.I.D DirtStar rims with a cross-section design that maintains strength while reducing un-sprung weight.

// To match the handling potential of

// The plastic fuel tank weighs a half-pound less than the prior model’s aluminum tank. Fuel capacity is 1.66 US gallons.

For MY2020, the KTM 50 SX, KTM 65 SX and KTM 85 SX have a new look and feature the WP XACT suspension for precise handling and stability in the toughest motocross terrain.

All of the junior models boast premium components such as high-quality Formula brakes, a chromium molybdenum steel frame, ergonomically designed bodywork, NEKEN handlebars and high-performance engines. For model year 2020, the KTM 65 SX has a reworked ignition curve for improved performance, while the carburetor has been optimized for better power delivery. Its bigger brother, the KTM 85 SX, has a new transmission drive shaft fixing for safer sprocket fixation. The KTM 85 SX also has a reworked muffler with improved packing wool, which saves weight. In addition, a new 19”/16” wheel combination is available on the KTM 85 SX for 2020.

To intensify any new KTM SX and KTM sportminicycle with either aesthetic individualization or performance upgrades, look no further than the KTM PowerParts range. Designed by the engineers in Mattighofen, Austria, these premium components can take any KTM SX to new heights.

In addition, adult and junior riders alike can stay READY TO RACE with the KTM PowerWear collection. High-quality riding gear, premium protection and casual clothing created by KTM and with partners are included in the KTM PowerWear lineup, ensuring KTM fans can state their stance while gearing up to ride to the limit.

Overview

Redesigned for 2019 and ready for battle, the RM-Z250 marries the sleek, race-ready appearance of the RM- Z450 with an upgraded engine and list of chassis changes to achieve superior performance. Using Suzuki’s “RUN, TURN and STOP” philosophy, factory engineers have made the 2019 RM-Z250 an even more formidable competitor.

The RM-Z250 has always set the standard as the best-handling 250 on the track. Now, the 2019 edition has more power, thanks to a host of changes that include a new cylinder head and dual injector EFI, to boost perfor- mance through the entire rev range. The frame and swingarm are new, as is the KYB-supplied suspension that includes a new coil spring fork. Strong brakes and ergonomically shaped bodywork that help keep the rider in control as the RM-Z250 carves up the racetrack.

Back in the pits, tuning the new EFI system for maximum performance is easy, thanks to Suzuki’s proven fu- el-coupler system. Suzuki’s Winning Balance is again on display with the 2019 RM-Z250, as it again raises its own high standard for cornering performance.

Engine Features

• Fitted with a new cylinder head and other improvements for 2019, the fuel-injected, 249cc, liquid-cooled, four-stroke, four-valve, DOHC engine remains proven and reliable.

  • The engine improvements result in greater power output with improved throttle response through the entire rev range.

  • The cylinder head features a new intake port shape and nish that ne-tunes the fuel/air charge into thecombustion chamber to increase engine output.

  • A 30 percent larger air cleaner opening is combined with a more direct air cleaner outlet tube path into thethrottle body for increased air ow.

  • The updated fuel injection system has extra-smooth power delivery, high fuel ef ciency, superb reliability, and easy tuning capability.

  • The new throttle body eliminates complex control linkage so the rider feels a more direct connection to the engine.

  • For the rst time on a Suzuki MX model, twin fuel injectors are used. The fuel/air mix created by both injectors improves charging ef ciency and increases high rpm power.

  • To feed the new twin-injector system and mix the fuel and air charge to improve throttle response, the new, high-capacity fuel pump has 17 percent more output pressure.

  • The new throttle body eliminates complex control linkage, so the rider feels a more direct connection to the engine.

  • The cam chain tension adjuster and guide have been redesigned to reduce friction and mechanical loss.

  • The compact aluminum cylinder is finished with Suzuki Composite Electro chemical Material (SCEM) coating for durability, light weight, and ef cient heat transfer.

  • To increase reliability, the machining process at the piston pin holes is changed to reduce stress at the piston crown.

  • Engine starting remains simple, due to a proven kick-starter and automatic decompression system thatworks precisely and ef ciently (eliminating the need for a heavy and costly electric start system).

  • The new, high-low exhaust system has a longer head-pipe, tapered mid-section, and multi-layer silencer that has better ow through the entire rev range, with an emphasis on low-rpm performance.

  • The new exhaust silencer is a four-layer design that enhances performance and maintains compliance with AMA sound regulations.

  • New resin engine protectors help guard the coolant pump (on the right) and the stator cover (on the left) from debris and stones.

CUD_3145.jpg

  • Advanced Electronics

    • Suzuki’s proven, easy-to-use Fuel Couplers are included to simplify EFI tuning

For quick fuel adjustments to suit riding conditions, two couplers are provided. One is for a rich, and another for a lean fuel setting compared to the stock setting. Riders can change fuel settings in seconds by simply connecting either coupler to the wire harness.

    • The 2019 RM-Z250 features an evolved and faster traction management system. The Electronic Control Module (ECM) continually measures throttle opening, engine speed and gear position and then adjusts theignition timing and fuel injector duration to ne-tune the engine output to deliver the best traction for theriding conditions.

The RM-Z250’s traction management system is different from a street-bike traction control system as it does not measure rear tire spin. Because the needs of a motocrosser are different than a street bike, this system offers constant adjustment that maximizes traction at all times.

    • The Suzuki Holeshot Assist Control (S-HAC) is a selectable launch system derived from the factory race bike to help riders’ takeoff from the starting gate for an early lead.

To aid riders at the moment of launch, there are three stages of power adjustment from the S-HAC system; 1) the moment of initial launch, 2) when crossing the starting gate, and 3) acceleration up to full-speed.

    • There are three S-HAC modes riders can choose for the best option per their skill level and starting conditions. The launch settings for A-Mode and B-Mode are updated on the 2019 RM-Z250 to help the rider control engine speed during starts.

A-Mode: For hard surfaces or slippery conditions at the starting gate. In this mode, S-HAC alters ignition timing at the moment of launch and the ride over the gate to reduce wheel slip to deliver a smooth take off. It also advances ignition timing during this sequence for stronger acceleration. After 6.0 seconds or when you reach fourth gear, the system shuts off and returns to normal ignition timing.

Benefit of A-Mode: For novice riders, and/or hard and slippery traction conditions, use A-Modefor a more controlled launch.

B-Mode: When conditions at the starting gate have better traction, and a more aggressive launch is desired. S-HAC will advance the ignition timing to allow increased throttle response and stronger acceleration off the line. The ignition timing alternation is in a similar sequence as A-Mode, but with increased overall timing. One of three conditions will return the ignition to normal operation(whichever happens rst): After 6.0 seconds or when you reach fourth gear, the system shuts off andreturns to normal ignition timing.

Benefit of B-Mode: For skilled riders and/or good starting conditions, use B-Mode for a more

      aggressive launch.

Base Mode: Standard power launch, no action required on the S-HAC switch.

RM-Z250L9_rear_suspension_1.jpg

Chassis Features

• The 2019 RM-Z250 features a new frame and swingarm design that continues Suzuki’s reputation for creating the best handling motocross motorcycles.

  • The new aluminum-alloy twin-spar frame combines cast and extruded sections to achieve superior front- and-rear weight distribution while balancing strength and weight.

  • The new frame is 370 grams (0.8 pounds) lighter, but has a 10 percent increase in torsional rigidity.

  • The position of the engine in the new frame is changed so the crankshaft sits higher in the chassis to further the bike’s nimble handling characteristics.

  • The design of the rear, upper engine mounts has been updated to a pair of mounts that are outboard of the cylinder head to increase rigidity and allow a direct intake path to the engine.

  • The engine mount material is changed to aluminum from steel to reduce weight.

  • The new swingarm is shaped using an innovative hydroforming process that maintains strength but reduces weight by 0.6 pounds (270 grams).

  • The new hydroforming process enabled engineers to create tapered swingarm beams that increased rigidity while reducing heavier assembly welding.

  • New hexagonal aluminum rails are used on the sub-frame for lighter weight, a slimmer appearance, andeasier air lter access.

  • The sub-frame rails are moved inward to slim the bodywork, but are also raised to provide additional space for the larger air cleaner.

  • Not only is the new sub-frame narrow, but all of the body work is slim so the rider can move freely in the cockpit, especially during spirited riding.

• The new, KYB-supplied shock absorber has a thin-wire spring, spring guide, cushion rubber guide, and lower link that weigh less and have better movement reaction. The new spring and link weigh a pound (447.5 grams) less than the prior parts.

  • This KYB shock has new damping force circuits and a different rear lever ratio to improve the suspension’s traction characteristics.

  • The damping force adjusters have a wider tuning range so the settings can better match the conditions and the rider’s style.

  • A new, high-performance KYB coil spring front fork replaces the PSF2 Pneumatic Spring Fork previously used on the 2018 RM-Z250.

  • Both fork legs have the same springs and damping force components, so front suspension tuning andmaintenance is balanced and easy: a great bene t during frequent riding.

  • This new fork uses a free-piston design that separates air and oil to optimize the damping characteristics. Other internal changes help control the damping cartridge’s pressure and spring recoil, so the fork action remains supple and precise.

  • The new Renthal aluminum tapered handlebar has a straighter bend (less pull-back) than prior models to help aid the rider during aggressive maneuvering.

  • A new, lighter upper fork bracket is used to complement the new front suspension and handlebars.

  • To improve stopping performance and feel, a new, larger 270mm, wave-style front brake rotor and a Nissin two-piston brake caliper are used.

  • The brake pad material is also changed to improve performance, plus the new front brake lever is a push rod type that more effectively transmits the squeezing force that the rider applies to the master cylinder.

  • A new design rear brake master cylinder hugs the frame beam to reduce dirt contamination and the chance of the rider’s boot touching it during riding.

  • The wheels feature black anodized D.I.D DirtStar rims with a new cross-section design that maintains strength while reducing un-sprung weight.

  • Suzuki beak-inspired styling has sharp front fender and radiator shroud shapes that blend into the frame’s side covers and an upswept tail, to promote the impression of speed while reducing weight and easing service.

  • The functional styling and the motorcycle’s trim chassis permits a variety of rider positions that facilitate control and comfort.

  • In addition to the ergonomic improvements from the new bodywork, the rider’s foots pegs are moved 0.12 inches (3.3 mm) forward and 0.2 inches (5.2 mm) upward, while the handlebar grip position is moved 0.3 inches (7.4 mm) forward and 0.15 inches (3.8 mm) downward, to create a high level of rider-control during competition.

  • The new plastic fuel tank weighs a half-pound less than the prior model’s aluminum tank. Fuel capacity is raised to 1.7 US gallons.

  • The seat base, inner fenders, and side covers were developed to reduce moisture and dirt from reachingthe air cleaner. This helps prevent debris from contaminating the air lter.

  • The new, slimmer seat has revised foam density to aid the rider’s control of the motorcycle. The seat weighs a half-pound less than the prior model’s and has a large gripper panel that runs nose-to-tail on the cover.

19KX450J_201FEGB00D_A.med.jpeg

ENGINE

  • NEW Kawasaki’s first electric start motocross bike
  • NEW hydraulic clutch
  • NEW finger-follower valve train designed by Kawasaki’s World Superbike engineers
  • NEW aggressive cam profiles
  • NEW larger intake and exhaust valves
  • NEW lightweight bridged-box piston
  • NEW thinner air cleaner element
  • NEW downdraft-style intake routing
  • NEW longer exhaust header pipe
  • NEW larger 44 mm throttle body
  • NEW change drum and shift fork reduce weight
  • NEW plain bearings for the connecting rod big-end
  • NEW compact fuel pump

The engine of the KX450 has always been strong, and the lightweight engine package is even stronger in 2019 thanks to the input from the factory race team. The four-stroke, single cylinder, DOHC, water-cooled 449 cc engine has increased peak power and a flatter torque curve that makes it easier to get on the gas sooner.

19KX450J_LithiumionBattery.high.jpeg

New for 2019, the KX450 becomes Kawasaki’s first motocross bike with an electric start, which is activated by the push of a button located on the handlebar near the right grip making starting easy and convenient. A lightweight, compact Li-ion battery helps keep weight down, as does an automatic centrifugal decompression system fitted to the exhaust cam, which lifts one exhaust valve to facilitate starting.

In addition to an electric start, the KX450 also becomes Kawasaki’s first motocross bike equipped with a hydraulic clutch. The new clutch offers a more direct feel and an easier pull for lighter lever action, helping to reduce fatigue while on the racetrack. The hydraulic clutch is designed to provide a more consistent feeling through minimal change in clutch play as the clutch heats up during heavy use.

Kawasaki brought top-level road racing technology to the KX450 valve train, using designs from Kawasaki World Superbike engineers. It uses finger-follower valve actuation, enabling larger-diameter valves and more aggressive cam profiles. Thanks to the finger-follower valve actuation, the rev-limit has been raised, contributing to increased high-rpm performance. The change to finger-follower valve actuation reduces the valve train mass and friction compared to a tappet-style valve actuation. A DLC coating on the finger followers helps protect against wear.

Complementing more aggressive cams, larger 40 mm intake valves and 33 mm exhaust valves with increased lift help air flow and contribute to increased power. Valves are formed from lightweight titanium, reducing reciprocating weight and offering high-rpm reliability. Chromium steel valve spring retainers and a highly durable chromium nitride coating on the camshafts improve reliability at high-rpm. The lightweight bridged-box piston uses the same design as the Monster Energy® Kawasaki race team’s factory race bikes, contributing to strong performance throughout the entire rpm range. The revised piston design reduces weight and optimizes strength for durability.

The cylinder is offset 8.5 mm forward to reduce mechanical loss through friction from the piston movement, enabling more efficient power generation. A special coating used on the intake port cores during the casting process make ports ultra-smooth, which increases efficiency and performance throughout the rpm range.

The new header pipe length has been increased by 105 mm to match the updated engine package and improves low-end power. A resonator chamber fitted to the exhaust system header effectively increases exhaust pipe length and helps reduce the decibel sound level. A new thinner air cleaner element improves air flow, contributing to increased performance at all rpm. New downdraft-style intake routing allows an even straighter approach for intake air into the cylinder, improving cylinder-filling efficiency and contributing to increased engine power. The new 44 mm throttle body is now larger and features reversed orientation of the butterfly for better fuel atomization from the top mounted injector. A new fine atomizing, 12-hole injector now sprays 75 micron droplets and flows over 20 percent more fuel to contribute to increased power, smooth power delivery and superb engine response at partial throttle.

A close-ratio five-speed transmission features lightweight gears and shafts to keep weight down, yet retain strength, while contributing to the motorcycle’s winning performance. Revisions have been made to the shift drum and shift fork, resulting in a weight savings. The engine cases, which feature a scavenger pump on the right case, have been constructed of extremely light materials and are designed to meet the highest standards of durability. A change from needle bearings to plain bearings for the connecting rod big-end reduces mechanical loss, contributing to overall performance.

The new lightweight fuel pump is located in the plastic fuel tank and has a revised design that is more compact, enabling a flatter design for the top of the tank.

DFI® COUPLERS

  • NEW Ability to adjust mapping while engine is running

19KX450J_201FHA00D_A.med.jpeg

Contributing to the race-winning engine characteristics, the digital fuel injection system of the KX450 features a coupler package that has set the industry standard. Each KX450 motorcycle comes standard with three different couplers, easily allowing riders to select pre-programmed fuel injection and ignition mapping to suit their riding style or track conditions. The four-pin DFI® couplers select maps that are designed for standard, hard or soft terrain settings. Changing the engine map is as simple as connecting the coupler cap of choice. For riders looking to fine tune their ECU settings, the KX FI Calibration Kit (Handheld) is offered as a Kawasaki Genuine Accessory, and provides access to the fully programmable ECU. The handheld device eliminates the need for a trackside laptop and gives riders the ability to create custom maps for precise adjustment of fuel and ignition settings. The user-friendly device can store up to seven preset maps and is PC-compatible. For 2019, maps can now be changed while the engine is running by changing couplers, eliminating the need to shut off the engine.

LAUNCH CONTROL

The launch control system of the KX450 motorcycle is a favorite for riders who are focused on getting to the first turn ahead of their competition. The push-button activation retards ignition timing in first and second gear, helping maximize traction and put the bike’s potent power to the ground. Once the rider shifts into third gear, normal ignition mapping immediately resumes and full power is restored.

CHASSIS

  • NEW slimmer aluminum perimeter frame
  • NEW engine used as a stressed member for rigidity balance
  • NEW swingarm with revised rigidity to match the main frame

Kawasaki’s engineering team has worked closely with the factory racing team to develop an industry-leading slim aluminum perimeter frame that is capable of providing precise cornering through excellent front-end feel and the ultimate agility at high speeds. As an evolution of the current design, the new frame boasts increased overall rigidity balance. The frame’s lightweight construction is composed of forged, extruded and cast parts, while the engine is used as a stressed member and adds to the frames rigidity balance. The overall rigidity balance has been increased through a new steering head area with optimized rigidity, main frame rails with revised cross-section, and a revised line for the swingarm brackets. Lower frame rails have been widened and also contribute to the bikes overall rigidity balance. Forged chain adjusters are also equipped with a self-locking rear axle nut. The axle nut holds 80 lb-ft torque without the need of a cotter pin, simplifying maintenance at the track.

The KX450 motorcycle also features a new lightweight swingarm that has revised rigidity and was designed to match the frame, and contributes to increased traction at the rear wheel. The alloy swingarm is constructed of a cast front section and twin tapered hydro-formed spars in a raw aluminum finish. With center of gravity and balanced handling in mind, engineers carefully placed the dimension of the swingarm pivot, output sprocket, and rear axle locations, so that the rear tire would drive the bike forward.

SUSPENSION & BRAKES

  • NEW Showa 49 mm coil spring fork with A-KIT technology
  • NEW revised linkage ratios
  • NEW rear shock layout and Uni-Trak® rear suspension
  • NEW front brake master cylinder
  • NEW larger 250 mm rear disc
  • NEW rear brake master cylinder and hose
  • NEW larger-diameter 22 mm front axle

For 2019, the KX450 motorcycle is equipped with new high-performance Showa 49 mm coil spring front forks with A-KIT technology, which feature large diameter inner tubes that are the same size as those found on Kawasaki’s factory racing team’s bikes and enable the use of large damping pistons for smooth action and firm damping.  A hard titanium coating on the outer surface of the fork inner tubes helps prevent wear abrasion. The increased surface hardness of the dark navy blue coating also helps to prevent scratches and damage to the tubes. As a result of the surface remaining smoother for a longer period, the reduction of friction creates a smoother and more enjoyable ride. A Showa “Dimplush™” finish process plus Kashima Coat creates a micro-dimpled surface on the inner walls of the outer fork tubes to improve oil retention, and helps prevent wear abrasion on the inside of the tubes, ensuring the sliding surfaces remain smooth for a long time, while the outside is protected against corrosion. The A-KIT technology used in valving, surface treatments and finishes, contributes to noticeably smoother suspension action at the initial part of the stroke and a better ride feel. Incredibly precise personalized settings can be found with 16-position compression and 16-position rebound adjustments.

On the rear suspension, a new Kawasaki Uni-Trak® linkage system is designed to work in conjunction with the new shock, new aluminum frame and new swingarm. The linkage, which is mounted below the swingarm, allows for a longer rear suspension stroke and allows more precise rear suspension tuning. The linkage ratios have been revised to help keep the rear wheel planted for increased traction. The Showa shock layout has been shifted 5 mm to the right to allow room for the new downdraft-style engine intake and increases rear wheel traction. The new Showa Compact Design rear shock has A-KIT technology with bigger diameter compression adjuster, improving damping on the high frequency movements found on today’s motocross tracks. Dual compression adjustability can be found on the rear shock, allowing high-speed and low-speed damping to be adjusted separately. The fully adjustable shock allows for settings to be personalized for riding preference and conditions.

An oversized 270 mm, petal-shaped front brake rotor from the renowned manufacturer, Braking, is fitted to keep up with the powerful engine of the KX450 and help riders brake harder and later than the competition. The front brake master cylinder has been revised and offers better initial control, while contributing to overall braking performance and consistency. The rear is equipped with a new larger-diameter 250 mm petal-shaped Braking® rotor that matches the large front disc and contributes to stronger stopping power. The rear brake master cylinder and hose have been revised to reduce weight.

Derived from Kawasaki’s factory racing efforts, front-end traction has been improved thanks to a new larger-diameter 22 mm front axle shaft. Dunlop MX3S tires contribute to increased front and rear traction.

 ADJUSTABILITY

  • NEW lighter and wider footpegs

Kawasaki continues its unmatched commitment towards providing riders with class-leading ERGO-FIT™ comfort thanks to its adjustable handlebar mounting system and footpegs to fit a variety of riders and riding styles. The handlebars feature four-way adjustable mounts. The multi-position handlebars offer two mounting holes with 35 mm of adjustability, and the 180-degree offset clamps boast four individual settings to suit different size riders. The new lighter footpegs are 5 mm wider and positioned 3 mm further rearward, offering excellent grip and making it easier to weight the pegs. The footpegs feature dual-position mounting points, with a lower position that reduces the standard setting by an additional 5 mm. The lower position effectively lowers the center of gravity when standing, and reduces knee angle when taller riders are seated.

BODYWORK & SEAT

  • NEW bodywork designed to facilitate rider movement
  • NEW slimmer single piece radiator shrouds
  • NEW flatter and lower fuel tank
  • NEW smooth engine covers

Complementing its championship proven technology, the 2019 KX450 motorcycle features aggressive styling along with in-mold graphics on the radiator shrouds that result in an ultra-smooth surface and racy look needed to finish at the top of its class. The sleek bodywork has been molded to match the V-mounted radiators and narrow chassis design. The flatter fuel tank design allows the tip of the seat to be 20 mm lower and gives the rider greater freedom of movement when changing riding position, and facilitates sitting farther forward.

Each piece of bodywork has been designed to help facilitate rider movement with long, smooth surfaces that make it easy to slide back and forth. New single piece shrouds are slimmer where they come to contact with the rider’s legs and are easier to hold on to. Seams between the shrouds, seat, and side covers are nearly flush in order to increase bike control as well as moving around on the motorcycle.

Adding to the distinctive Kawasaki factory race team look is a green oil cap, generator cover plugs, green alumite suspension adjusters, and black alumite wheels. Engine covers were designed to be smooth in order to not impede rider movement.

The 2019 Kawasaki KX450 motorcycle can easily be made to suit a large range of riders thanks to its flat seat design, adjustable handlebar and footpegs and adjustable suspension components. This perfectly complements the wide range of damping settings as well as the DFI couplers and optional handheld KX FI Calibration Kit, allowing the rider to find the ideal engine characteristics to suit a particular track or conditions. While the base settings on the KX450 motorcycle are based on extensive testing and racing, the motorcycle provides a huge range of technology and adjustment to help ensure every rider can experience the incredible ability of this extremely capable motocross bike.
